TOOTH GEM
If you have a false, crowned or capped tooth, unfortunately the gem will not adhere to the artificial surface.
Initially something new in your mouth feel different, but a few days after application you will get used to the new feeling. The gems we use are only 0.4mm or 0.9mm thick and 1.8mm to 3mm in diameter. Nothing bulky or sharp!
No! The gems are bonded to the tooth enamel without any drilling or pain. The application and removal are an easy process, similar to having orthotic brackets fitted. When it’s ready to come off your dentist can easily ‘pop’ it off without damage - the tooth is then polished to remove any remaining bond residue.
Diet and aftercare can affect how long the gems last. If instructions are followed correctly and care is taken when eating, the gem can last anywhere between 1 – 24 months. Our mouths are naturally acidic but avoiding hard food items can help with longevity.
The gems will naturally fall off in time, but if you would like the gem removed earlier you can ask your dentist to remove it when having a routine professional clean. If the gem falls off naturally there may still be some residual adhesive left on your tooth, but this can be easily removed by your dentist at a check-up.
The gems we use are authentic Swarovski crystals, Preciosa Crystals and gold, with no sharp edges. We only work with gems that are lead free, ensuring they are safe if accidently ingested. It will basically come out "the natural way".
Absolutely! Teeth whitening can still be done if you have a gem applied. It is important to note that the area under the Tooth Jewel will not receive the whitening treatment while the Tooth Gem is on.
The application of the tooth gem will not make any difference regarding oral hygiene, and you should still continue to brush and floss as normal. We recommend not using an electric toothbrush for the first 24 hours to ensure the gem has set properly. Brushing gently around the gem is extremely important to avoid plaque build-up.
Yes, you can (and should!) still have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Tooth gems will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the jewel is sealed, similar to a filling, so no bacteria will penetrate. The hygienist can easily polish on or around the jewel with a soft point.
Tooth Gems are non-invasive; they will not damage the tooth or enamel & are only semi-permanent. The Tooth Gems we use are 100% real Swarovski and Preciosa Crystal.
TOOTH WHITENING
Teeth whitening is a simple, safe way to refresh your smile cosmetically. An hour treatment can transform stained or discoloured teeth into a whiter smile.
Prior to treatment we use a shade guide to determine the shade of your teeth and then again after the treatment so you can see the difference. Our barrier gel is applied to protect your gums, followed by our whitening solution containing hydrogen peroxide.
Your teeth are then exposed to a special blue LED light which causes the applied gel to oxidize, accelerating the whitening process. The whitening process lifts staining from the surface (and Dentin) of your teeth, restoring your teeth to their natural colour.
The experience can take up to 90 minutes for one individual. Our Triple Treatment consists of 3 x 20 minute sessions, meaning a total of 60 minutes under the LED light. We allow 30 minutes to go through the initial consult, tailoring the treatment for each individual. Ensuring we address any concerns and questions, and explaining our complimentary aftercare. The same time frame applies for our ‘Deluxe Triple Treatment’ and ‘Top up Treatment’. We allow up to 2 hours for couple or group bookings.
Results vary and depend entirely on the individuals physiology. With our treatments you can experience a result of up to 16 shades lighter.
Each individual reacts differently, some experience sensitivity while others may experience none – it’s important to advise prior to treatment of any existing sensitivity you have. During the whitening process your teeth become temporarily dehydrated. When your teeth are dehydrated, it reduces their ability to insulate the nerve from changes in temperature, which can result in experiencing sensitivity.
For the first 24 hours post treatment, we recommend avoiding extremely hot or cold food/drinks as this could bring on sensitivity. As part of our aftercare kit we offer a desensitising gel which is infused with fluoride to help replenish and nourish your teeth. The desensitising gel temporarily blocks the pores on your teeth, aiding in insulation while your teeth rehydrate.
The conclusive answer is no, teeth whitening get will not damage or harm the enamel of your teeth. Enamel is considered the hardest tissue in the human body. Although the enamel is the outer layer of the tooth, it is the tissue beneath the enamel called dentin that absorbs the majority of your staining. Throughout the whitening process the gel travels through tiny microscopic tubules, to the dentin beginning to lighten the stained tissue underneath.
Teeth whitening is NOT suitable for everyone. We do not recommend whitening if you are pregnant or under the age of 16. While experts suggest teeth whitening is safe for breastfeeding mothers, conclusive research has not been presented, so we would suggest that you express before treatment or wait until your baby is weaned.
We do not recommend whitening if you have decayed teeth, cavities, gum disease or exposed roots. If your teeth aren’t in a healthy state, we recommend seeing a dentist for advice first before deciding if the treatment is right for you.
Crowns or veneers can be whitened by removing surface staining, returning them to their original shade. They cannot be whitened past the original shade they were set at, but you will still be able to see a difference.
Teeth whitening isn’t permanent, and like any cosmetic treatment it requires maintenance. Longevity of results will depend on the type of treatment you have and how well you look after your teeth afterwards.
In the first few weeks after your initial treatment you may lose up to 40% of the colour achieved. That is why we highly recommend a ‘Top up’ treatment 4-6 weeks after your initial treatment, which not only whitens your teeth further, but will build lasting results. Following a ‘Top up’ treatment, results can last between 3-12 months depending on genetics, eating and drinking habits, oral hygiene and age. There is more chance of your teeth staying whiter for longer if you avoid smoking and staining food and beverages.
To maintain your brightest and whitest results, there are certain foods and beverages that you should avoid for the first 24-48 hours post treatment as your teeth are more susceptible to staining during this period.
Your teeth have microscopic tubules that range from your tooth’s pulp to the enamel’s outer layer. These tubules are usually blocked by minerals to protect your teeth against sensitivity. For the whitening process to work, the gel travels through the tubules and lifts staining present on the dentin. Once finished though, it leaves the microscopic tubules open, leaving your teeth more vulnerable to staining. It takes between 24-48 hours for your saliva to block these channels again, so your teeth wont instantly absorb staining from food and drink with dark pigments.
For the first 3 hours post treatment:
Do not consume any food Do not consume any drinks except water Avoid hot or cold water this may bring on sensitivity (room temperature is okay) Avoid smoking For the following 24-48 hours post treatment:
Avoid any dark staining drinks like Tea, Coffee, Red Wine, coloured soft or alcoholic drinks and fruit juice. Avoid all dark staining foods like bolognese, soy sauce, balsamic, curry, chocolate, beetroot and berries. -Avoid citrus and acidic foods (citrus fruits and tomato) Avoid any foods or drinks that would leave a stain on a white shirt. Avoid smoking or smoke as little as possible for 24hours Food and drink that may be consumed are as follows: Food: Fish, sea food, chicken, turkey, rice, pasta, cheese, cauliflower, onion, egg whites, potatoes cooked to your liking, bread, rice cakes, corn thins, bananas, plain yoghurt, cereals, oats, pancakes, leafy salads, cucumber, risotto, sandwiches. (Any food, that if dropped would not stain a white t-shirt)
Drink: Still/sparkling water, soda water, clear lemonade, milk, coconut water, clear alcohol mixed with clear mixers (gin and tonic, vodka and soda etc) - Do not consume any food
Do not consume any drinks except water Avoid hot or cold water this may bring on sensitivity (room temperature is okay) Avoid smoking
There are several possible reasons for white spots on teeth. These include, tooth dehydration, dental fluorosis, enamel hypoplasia, poor dental hygiene and eating too many acidic or sugary foods.
If white spots are present due to tooth dehydration, they will disappear in a few hours as soon as your teeth rehydrate. The teeth whitening process can make white spots more evident, you may not have noticed them before, but as the tooth lightens, they can become more visible. People with fluorosis especially note that it temporarily becomes more obvious; within 12 hours post treatment though, they do fade and results settle and blend in.
